When it comes to Forever stamps, it does not matter what year the stamps were issued. The first Forever rate stamp was released in 2007. It carried the First-Class rate at that time, which was $0.41. If you happen to have any lying around, they would be worth $0.68 each in 2024.
You can use them for sending mail today, without having to add additional postage. This wasn’t always the case. You could still use unused postage stamps issued as far back as 1847, but you needed to include enough stamps on your letter or package to make the current rate. A bit of a hassle, for both the sender and for USPS employees, who needed to calculate multiple stamps on said mailings.
